Passed the bill to give law-abiding citizens the right to carry firearms in the event of a natural disaster. Fought to make sure the National Guard and State Police have the tools they need to protect our citizens from the New Orleans crime wave.
 
He's been called a rock solid advocate for reforming education - Helped create the Tuition Opportunity Program for Students TOPS. Co-authored the Education Accountability Act. Supported teacher pay raises and fully-funding universities. Secured education tax credits for families.
 
He's been called the best example of what it means to be an honest public servant - Worked for comprehensive ethics reform to make government more transparent. Leader in the fight for levee board reform and tax assessor consolidation. Led the fight this year to repeal the tax increases imposed by the Stelly Plan and fought to repeal tax increases on families. Fought to cut wasteful state spending and slush funds in the state budget and stood up to protect the spending cap.

Steve Scalise is a systems engineer for a local technology company. He is a graduate of Rummel High School and Louisiana State University with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Political Science. Steve and his wife, the former Jennifer Letulle, reside in Jefferson with their daughter, Madison Carol.
